🚧 — Standing Against the Mackenzie Valley Highway

Our Healing Comes First. Our Land Comes First. Our Teachings Come First.

There is something important we need to speak about today — something that affects our land, our water, our animals, our culture, and our future.

The Mackenzie Valley Highway project has recently been discussed with major fast‑tracking funds, and while different sources describe different numbers, the message is the same: the push for this highway is accelerating.

And we need to be clear about where we stand.

We stand with the land. We stand with healing. We stand with Kwitchinnut teachings. We stand with our Elders. We stand with our future generations.

We do not stand with a highway that threatens everything we are trying to rebuild.

🪶 Our Friday Presentation Has Been Rewired

Because of this new push for highway development, we have changed the direction of our Friday Treaty Education class. Instead of continuing with the next section of GCLCA, we will begin teaching:

“How We Ensure Healing Becomes the Priority”

This is not just a lesson. This is a responsibility.

Our community cannot move forward in a healthy way if massive land‑disturbing projects are being pushed ahead while our people are still fighting for detox, treatment, after‑care, and cultural restoration.

Highways do not heal people. Healing heals people.

And healing must come first.

🌿 Why We Stand Against the Highway

This is not political. This is cultural. This is spiritual. This is land‑rooted.

Kwitchinnut teachings tell us:

Land is medicine.

Water is life.

Animals are relatives.

Movement must follow the seasons, not machines.

Healing must come before disturbance.

A highway cuts through all of that.

It threatens:

erosion

habitat destruction

water contamination

fish spawning grounds

migration routes

increased poaching

vehicle collisions

harvesting areas

cultural sites

community safety

the quiet of the land

the teachings of our Elders

A highway is not just a road. It is a permanent wound.

And our people deserve healing, not wounds.

🕊️ Healing Before Highways

Our Friday class will now focus on:

how to assert healing as a priority

how to protect land through treaty education

how to speak from culture, not conflict

how to build community strength

how to ensure our voices are heard

how to stand with Honour, not anger

how to walk forward in a way that reflects Kwitchinnut values

This is not about fighting. This is about protecting.

This is about ensuring our children inherit land that still breathes.

🔥 Why This Matters Now

Because healing is not optional. Because reconciliation is not optional. Because our people deserve detox, treatment, after‑care, and land‑based programs before any major development is considered.

Because pushing a highway ahead while communities are still hurting is against everything our teachings stand for.

Because Kwitchinnut do not believe in disturbing the land before healing the people.

Because our future depends on the choices we make today.

🤝 Join Us Friday

We will gather, learn, and speak with clarity.

We will teach how healing becomes the priority. We will teach how land is protected. We will teach how culture guides decisions. We will teach how to stand with Honour.

High Class School is not just a learning space. It is a place where we protect what matters.

Share your thoughts: What does healing mean to you? What does the land mean to you?

We rise together.
